IRS has new target —Commentary and news aggregation site CatholicismUSA…
(CUSA) – Less than a year ago after a long application process, CatholicismUSA received federal tax exempt status just like other news magazines and sites such as National Review, American Spectator and National Catholic Register, to name a few better known publications.
The IRS has now opened an investigation into CatholicismUSA to see if this Texas-formed nonprofit may keep its 501(c)(3) tax exempt status.
This audit could not possibly be routine or based upon monetary issues. It could only come through a desire to silence what CatholicismUSA has offered people for more than three years, namely, inspirational homilies and writings by religious figures, Christian commentary on the day’s events and links to news articles on other websites.
Who would want to do that? Well, we suspect it is more than likely a reader who just couldn’t accept the notion that a news site with a religious and (gasp) Catholic foundation should be allowed to speak of the daily struggle for religious freedom in the USA and around the world.
We ask for your prayers as we work to discern the need and value of our work going forward.
While we do not make a practice of bombarding our readers with donation requests, if you would like to make a donation to help our work we would put it to good use. All gifts go to improving the website.
We will post any updates we receive from the IRS.
Please pray for us!
Thank you very much,
David N. Wagner
